Still convinced that Apple would export its moneymaker of a texting app to other platforms? Well, the thought of iMessage on Android continues to be an experiment for the lot of us — but if it ever did exist, one of Google’s developers in charge of competing app Allo would expect that the app would not support SMS.
Why? According to Allo project co-lead Justin Uberti, it’s because Apple is interested in keeping users locked into its platform.
@Russ4Google @Bodge32 seems unlikely. iMessage is part of iOS lock-in.

@Bodge32 @Russ4Google if iMessage ever comes to Android, I guarantee it will not have SMS.

@sovanyio @exynoshd @Bodge32 @Russ4Google possibly; Apple makes Android apps when $ is possible (Music). Still, lock-in seems more valuable.

Apple can make money from Apple Music no matter where the company can bring it because commercialized music is a commodity. Chat apps? The features inside them? Not so much. And tying that back to a more valuable hardware platform seems more key for Infinite Loop’s bottom line in 2016.
Why make users text with an app other than iMessage? Make it inconvenient enough to make people move to iOS.
