Sony Mobiles India today unveiled the most awaited Sony flagship, the Xperia XZ Premium in India. The smartphone was announced back in February at the Mobile World Congress 2017, being the first smartphone to come with a 4K HDR display. The smartphone features Sony’s Motion Eye Camera which is capable of shooting slow motion videos up to 960 frames per second.
The smartphone is priced at Rs 59,990 and will be available for purchase at Sony Center, select retail outlets and Amazon.in from June 12 onwards. It will will available in two cooler variants— Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black.
You can pre-book the smartphone between June 2 and June 11. Those who pre-book the Xperia XZ Premium will get a Sony SRS-XB20 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker worth Rs 8,990 for free. Moreover, Sony is giving a 3-month subscription for Sony LIV worth Rs 359 for free.
The Xperia XZ Premium was launched alongside the Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra. It is the most high-end model of the lot and boasts of some amazing on paper specifications. Prior to the XZ Premium, Sony launched the Xperia XZs in India in April at Rs 49,990.
The XZ Premium is powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64Gb internal storage with microSD card support up to 256GB. The dual-SIM smartphone runs the latest version of Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
It has a 5.5-inch 4K HDR TRILUMINOS display with Dynamic Contrast Enhancer. Moreover it has IP68/65 certification making it splash and dust resistant.
On the camera front boasts of a 19MP Motion Eye camera on the rear with f/2.0 aperture, 1/ 2.3” Exmor RS sensor, Triple image sensing technology, Predictive Hybrid Autofocus, 960 fps Super slow motion videos, Anti-distortion shutter, Low-light photo: ISO 12800 /4000 (Video), SteadyShot with 5-axis stablization and 4K recording.
On the front is has a 13MP camera with 22mm wide angle lens, f/2.0 aperture and 5-axis stabilisation.
One of the main highlights of the smartphone is its seamless design that features a ‘Glass Loop Surface’ that wraps around the entire smartphone. Similar to the Xperia Z5 Premium, the XZ Premium also comes with a stunning reflective mirror finish on the back.
For connectivity, it offers A-GNSS (GPS + GLONASS), WiFi Miracast, Bluetooth 5.0, DLNA Certified, Google Cast, NFC, USB 3.1 and Type-C.
To power up the smartphone it has a 3230mAh with Sony’s own Qnovo Adaptive Charging and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.
You still can't buy the Android-toting Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3, but HMD Global - the firm behind the new Nokia handsets - has confirmed exclusively to TechRadar that the trio will be upgraded to Android O (Android 8) once it's available.
Android O is the next version of Google's mobile platform and was announced at the search giant's annual IO conference in May.
A spokesperson from HMD Global told TechRadar "the smartphones will get the Android O update once the new release is available from Google for their OEM partners, the same way HMD Global is committed to the monthly Android security updates."
The Android O update is not slated to be available until Q3 2017 (September or October), and it's unlikely the new Nokia smartphones will get the update right away.
The spokesperson told us they couldn't comment on the arrival date for Android O on the Nokia 6, 5 and 3 - but in the past it has sometimes taken manufacturers months to roll out new software.
There is a potential silver lining for the Nokia 6, 5 and 3 though, as they run an almost stock version of Android 7 - which should make the switch to Android 8 quicker and easier.
We hope it'll be available before Christmas, making the new Nokias some of the first phones to get the update.
Yu Televentures today launched a new smartphone India called the Yureka Black. After many rumours claiming the shut down of the company, the brand rubbished the speculation with a comeback with this smartphone. Notably, the company launched its last smartphone in August 2016.
With the new Yu Yureka Black, the company aims to bring back the legacy plotted by the original Yureka smartphone back in 2014. Yu has designed the new smartphone keeping the emerging lifestyle trend in mind, which obviously mean the new device comes with a new stylish design studded in a stealthy black shell.
Shubhodip Pal, Chief Marketing & Commercial Officer, Micromax and Yu Televentures, told that Yu Televentures has sold more than 3 million smartphones from the time Yu had entered the market. The company after the comeback promises to deliver unique design, better consumer experience, and aims at online domination.
Coming back to the smartphone, it features a shiny black body that looks strikingly similar to the Jet Black iPhone's finish. Having such premium design and build on such an affordable is not something we usually see in this price category.
Internals include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 clocked at 1.4Ghz, coupled with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 505 GPU. It comes with 32GB of internal storage with micro-SD card support up to 128GB. It features a 5-inch full HD display with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. It runs on Android Marshmallow with a custom UI on top.
The Yu Yureka Black comes in two color variants— Chrome Black and Matte Black. It is 8.5mm thin and weighs just 142 grams.
Optics include a 13MP rear camera with Sony IMX258 sensor and f/2.0 aperture and an 8MP camera on the front for selfies.
Additionally, the device comes with a 3,000mAh battery. Sensors include a G sensor, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor and a fingerprint sensor.
The company has added some cool nifty features like long screenshot with a swipe of three fingers, lock screen gestures, one-handed UI mode. Introducing the features, the company CMCO emphasised on company’s approach to make their devices more user friendly.
The Yureka Black is priced at Rs 8,999 and will be up for sale exclusively on Flipkart from June 6 onwards. At this price point, it will compete with the recently launched Redmi 4 and Lenovo K6 Power.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and the S8+ have been available in India for quite some time now. However, the company didn’t offer the 128GB + 6GB RAM variant in the region. But that changes today with the Korean manufacturer officially announcing this particular storage and RAM variant in a Midnight Black variant.
The phone will be sold via online and offline retailers shortly starting June 9. The company mentions that the handset will be available for pre-booking via Flipkart and Samsung’s own online shop starting June 2 i.e. tomorrow. The handset will set you back by Rs 74,990 and the company will offer a free wireless charger with all pre-bookings.

Barring the storage and the RAM, the phone has no other changes compared to the standard Galaxy S8+. It’s a bit surprising that the company waited this long to bring this variant to the markets. Some customers who have already purchased the S8+ in a 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant might not be too pleased by this.
