Got friends who like to share just a few too many Instagram pictures of their vacations? Want to tidy up your social media feeds without hurting anyone's feelings? You could soon be able to mute specific users in your timeline without unfollowing them, based on limited tests Instagram seems to be running right now.
Instagram user @wongmjane spotted the new feature in her app, reports The Verge. It would presumably work in a similar way to the mute option on Twitter – you don't have to see posts from particular people, but you can stay connected to them.
It's not the only Instagram test to have surfaced, either: the developers behind the app also seem to be toying with the idea of throwing in a calendar view for your Instagram Stories, making it easier to look back at previous posts that are no longer available for your contacts to see.
There's more. Another feature @wongmjane has come across shows a Slow-Mo button for Stories, alongside the usual options like Boomerang, Focus and Rewind. Stories are now one of the most popular parts of the Instagram app, so it makes sense that the developers would want to add even more options.
And speaking of Stories, Instagram also appears to be testing the option to post reactions to Stories, so you can tell your friends just how hilarious or depressing their most recent uploads are. The feature is already available in Facebook Stories.
Instagram has made the standard "no comment" response to these tests, but it's standard practice for apps to run small-scale experiments like this – we don't know when these features will appear for everyone, or even if they ever well, but it's interesting to see some of the ideas the Instagram team is looking at.

The Essential Phone has been improving in steps since its launch, most recently with its jump to Android Oreo 8.1. Now, Essential has made the company's first phone and accessories even more accessible, with a commercial release to customers in Canada, France, Japan and the UK via the Essential.com site.
Early on, the Essential Phone had much more limited availability, with only Sprint offering it in retail locations, despite working on other GSM networks, like AT&T and T-Mobile. Since then, Amazon has begun offering an unlocked Essential Phone with Alexa.
Though the Essential Phone is trailing behind competitors that have released or debuted flagships running the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset, it still has plenty of life in it. Its design holds up, with a notch that beat Apple to the party and offers more screen real estate than other notch-equipped phone. And the Snapdragon 835 chipset inside is still a competent performer.

We already saw the iPhone dressed in red last year with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and trend continues with the Apple announcing the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus Product Red Edition. The company’s red variants contribute towards raising money to fight HIV/AIDS.
The iPhone 8 Product Red edition with 64GB storage will cost Rs 67,940 whereas the 128GB variant will cost Rs 81,500. The iPhone 8 Plus Product Red edition, on the other hand, will cost Rs 77,560 for the base 65GB variant and the 256GB model will cost Rs 91,110.
Both the devices go on sale today and can be found on the official Apple India website.
The new models of the Product Red portfolio were launched internationally starting April 13. Countries like Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, South Korea, UK and the US already have the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus Red editions available to them. In fact, India among the third wave of launches.
Though not the pioneers of bring the color red to phones, they were definitely the first ones to design an entire marketing campaign around the color. After the Apple’s launch, brands like Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus followed suit.
That being said, it’s for a good cause. All the money that Apple receives from the sale of Red Edition phones goes towards Red, the global fund for HIV/AIDS grants. More specifically, Red is a company that seeks to engage private sector companies with raising funds and increasing awareness about the epidemic of HIV/AIDs in eight African nations.
As per reports from December, Apple had raised over $160 million (Rs 1,038 crore) for help in Red’s efforts. So far they’re the largest donor for the organisation.
