Apple's App Store is a thing of beauty. It's home to a huge number of high quality applications (okay, there are more than a few duds in there too), but it's been a while since it's been given a makeover. That may be about to change very soon though.
According to sources "familiar with the intended revamp" speaking to Bloomberg, a pretty major update is apparently just a few weeks away from landing on iPhones and iPads around the world.
The key talking point is the introduction of a "For You" tab, which will see Apple push applications it thinks you'll want based on your prior purchases and downloads.
Currently the App Store has featured app spaces such as "Hot right now" and "Apps we love" – but there's no tailored content based on your personal preferences.
If the app recommendation function does arrive, it would see Apple mining your data to work out what else you might like, as it does with Apple Music to recommend artists and albums.
The Google Play store already has a "Recommended for You" section, and this latest news doesn't come as a surprise as Apple looks to push more purchases through its own store.
One for all
The update will also see an alignment of the App Store across both iPhone and iPad, which currently use slightly different versions of the application library.
A more general redesign is also expected for the App Store, but there's no word on what visual changes Apple may implement.
