We’ve spent the last couple of months with the belief that Chrome OS and Android are merging. Andromeda has been rumored to be the project where both operating systems meet, and it makes a ton of sense as we’ve seen how even Windows 10 is now able to work on ARM chips. We even heard that this plan was already in deep development, but some news today might have just thrown that off.
In a recent interview on the All About Android, Android SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer has confirmed that both operating systems aren’t merging. According to Lockheimer, the main reason is because both operating systems have enough success on their own. You’d think that Chrome OS isn’t as popular as to warrant such a comment, but we do know that Chrome Books overtook the Mac in sales last quarter. Yes, we do know you can buy around four or five Chrome Books for the price of a Mac, but it just serves as a point of perspective over how quickly Chrome OS has grown over the last few years.
Could it be that Andromeda is something else entirely? We’ll keep a look out for that.
