Who knew that you could pull together Justin Bieber and Ryan Reynolds together in one list?
The Google Play Store sells millions of copies of apps, music, movies and more over the course of a year and, for the first time ever, it decided to celebrate all that content in an awards ceremony. But now we’re talking about sheer volume as Google is disclosing the top five downloaded pieces of content in several categories for the year.
The Google Play “Best of 2016” list covers six categories: apps, games, music, movies, TV shows and books.
Believe it or not, Deadpool actually took the top spot in two of the categories, besting another literary entry from J.K. Rowling and a freaking Star Wars film:
- Stressed Out, Twenty One Pilots
- Sorry, Justin Bieber
- One Dance (feat. WizKid & Kyla), Drake
- Don’t Let Me Down (feat. Daya), The Chainsmokers
- Me, Myself & I, G-Eazy
- Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe by Cullen Bunn
- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts One and Two by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, Jack Thorne
- The Girl on the Train: A Novel by Paula Hawkins
- The Art of War by Tzu Sun
- Me Before You: A Novel by Jojo Moyes
All of these releases proved to be global hits for 2016 and a lot of these seem to be products for their time — the dominance of selfie editing apps is apparent here. Let’s hope that 2017 brings a little more freshness to the table.
