Nougat update could actually be Android 7.1.1 on Galaxy S7

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will likely see not just the improvements of Android 7.0, but the next big iteration on top of that — the one that Pixel and Nexus devices just had.

In the official community forum for the Samsung Galaxy Beta Program, the program that is testing out the UI for Android Nougat on the said devices, one member suggested that double tap to wake be included in the feature set as well as an upgrade to Android 7.1.1.

The official response was thusly lodged:

Thank you for your suggestion.

We are pleased to announce that we will support Android 7.1.1 from the official N OS release.

We look forward to receiving your additional valuable suggestions.

Thank you again for your generous support.

It’s very welcome news for unlocked S7 and S7 edge owners who won’t have to wait out the extra months to see what would otherwise be a minor iteration either get implemented or even overlooked.

This could also be why the timeframe on the wide release of this software update has been pushed back. Verizon devices are being booted off the beta program as it continues on through early next year.

Sony is also supposedly in the running to hit its devices with the 7.1.1 update first.
