In the dearth of major Android Wear smartwatches, it is clear that at least two brands will be able to prosper this holiday season. One of them is led by a very happy Tim Cook.
In an email exchange with Reuters, the Apple CEO said that the Apple Watch’s weekly sell-through rate — that is actual sales to consumers and not store shipments — has reached a record high. That high should take the product to its “best quarter ever.”
Sure, the Watch has been out for about six quarters so far, but with fitness trackers remaining the dominant force in wearable tech and the fact that third-quarter shipments for Apple’s wrist-worn wares compared terribly year-over-year in an IDC report, the news may have seemed pertinent to share publicly.
“Our data shows that Apple Watch is doing great and looks to be one of the most popular holiday gifts this year,” Cook wrote.
We will likely not be told the final number of units sold for Apple’s first fiscal quarter — the Apple Watch is usually reported within the “other products” line in earnings data sets.
