Under-Glass fingerprint scanner announced just in time for the Samsung Galaxy S8

For the longest time we’ve known that Synaptics has been the primary supplier of fingerprint scanners for Samsung. Sure we weren’t fans of the first iterations on the Galaxy S5, but innovation has proven quick with the company’s latest iteration. The company has just announced its new FS9100 line of fingerprint scanners, and what makes them special is that they work under a smartphone’s display.

Recent rumors have said that Samsung plans to get rid of the Fingerprint-scanning home button with the Galaxy S8 and bring a brand new display that includes everything. Given the timing of this announcement by Synaptics, it could just be that this might be the technology Samsung needs to be able to pull the currently impossible with the Galaxy S8.

It could mean a later launch of the Galaxy S8 given the launch times provided Synaptics for Q2/2017, but it could just be that this is for any other OEM.
