If you would like to tour around the building where the executive branch of the US government does its most important work, there’s a lot of hassle involved in getting down to Washington, D.C., and making the proper guiding arrangements.
But if you have an iOS or Android device and a $1 bill, you’ll be able to get a new take on how the White House came to be and what purpose it serves with the new “1600” app.
The app is a collaboration with the White House Historical Association, the White House and Nexus Studios out of the UK. It features an animated, augmented reality sequence where the White House suddenly rises out of George Washington’s face — he was the only president not to have lived there, though he did order the facilities built during his presidency. The narration behind the story goes on about how the White House is “the People’s House.”
The app is free to download, though you do need the $1 bill to trigger the experience.
