Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship will be available in two sizes and feature an almost bezel-less “infinity” display and iris scanner, according to sources that spoke with the Guardian.
If the rumors are correct, the two S8 models (codenamed Dream and Dream 2) will have curved displays around the 5-inch and 6-inch realms that wrap around the left- and right-hand edges of the screen, a-la the current Galaxy S7 Edge.
The physical dimensions of the handsets are said to remain very similar to the current S7 series, but will make better use of front-facing real-estate for their “infinity” displays. Because of this, the fingerprint sensor, and possibly even the Samsung logo, may be relegated to the back of the device.
More screen, more features
Alongside fingerprint scanning, the sources also claimed that the ill-fated Note 7’s iris scanning feature will be included in the S8’s biometric authentication arsenal, and will now allow both unlocking of the device and online purchase approval.
Other features said to be present include a similar-yet-improved camera with a Dual Pixel Sensor as seen on the S7 range, the new Snapdragon 835 processor, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 64GB integrated storage (with up to 256GB expandable), and a USB-C data/charge port.
The Galaxy S8 is expected to be officially announced in the second half of March and is projected to go on sale in late April.
