Samsung launched two new phones for 2017, but neither are the Galaxy S8

After a Samsung phone but can’t afford the Galaxy S7 or wait until the Galaxy S8 later this year? The new Samsung Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 may be exactly what you're looking for.

The Galaxy A5 2017 edition has a Full HD 5.2-inch display, a octa-core SoC clocked at 1.9GHz, 3GB of RAM and 16MP camera sensors on both the front and back of the phone.

There’s also 32GB of storage, a 3,000mAh battery and fast charging capabilities.

The Galaxy A3 2017 is a smaller phone with a 720p Super AMOLED 4.7-inch display, an SoC clocked at 1.6GHz and 2GB of RAM.

Storage wise it’s limited to only 16GB, but both the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 take microSD cards up to 256GB.

The Galaxy A3 also features a 2,350mAh battery, but there’s no fast-charging like there is on the Galaxy A5. Both phones do feature reversible USB-C ports though.

For photography the Galaxy A3 features a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP camera on the front of the phone.

Design wise, each phone is influenced by the look of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and although they're not as premium both feature the same level of waterproofing at IP68 resistance.

Each phone is running Android 6 Marshmallow software. That's over a year old software now though and Samsung hasn’t revealed whether it plans to update each phone to Android 7 anytime soon.

Those in the UK can buy the Galaxy A5 or Galaxy A3 from the Samsung store after January 20, and it’ll be delivered to you by some point in February.

You'll have the choice of four colors for each phone: Black Sky, Gold Sand, Blue Mist or Peach Cloud.

There’s currently no word on pricing for either phones or whether the new handsets will be coming to the US and Australia. We've asked Samsung and we'll be sure to update this story once we know more.
