Can we call the launch of the AirPods botched yet? Or should we give the products a chance?
As a commercial entity, Apple’s first wireless earbuds are failing on literal delivery. They were announced back in September with the iPhone 7 and the Beats Solo3 wireless headphones. Both of those products are out — the AirPods are not. Apparently, the company doesn’t “believe in shipping a product before it’s ready“.
So, how far out from announcement will the AirPods be before they are actually “ready” for delivery? Those $159 pre-orders are on the line.
Well, CEO Tim Cook has apparently addressed one customer’s concerns in an email exchange. MacRumors obtained the emails and has verified the headers that tag the email to Apple’s corporate servers. We do have to caution that such things can be faked, but other Apple executives have taken the time to address individual customer complaints once in a blue moon.
Here’s the exchange:
Customer’s comment: “Give us a release date. I really bought in to the wireless vision you painted. Now I’m stuck waiting with my EarPods but can’t charge my 7 at the same time which I need to do at work. Let us know if it’s a month or 6 months, because then I’ll just buy some other wireless headphones.”
Tim Cook’s response: “Thanks for your note. Sorry for the delay—we are finalizing them and I anticipate we will begin to ship over the next few weeks.”
Tim Cook has a little over three weeks to make sure that these wireless earbuds get to his customers’ doorsteps by Christmas.
Retail employees have also been on the scramble to stop customers from cancelling their AirPods pre-orders by, in some cases, mentioning arbitrary delivery dates.
